THE BIRDHOUSE 135: Britta Arnold Interview

BH135-BA.png

This week on THE BIRDHOUSE, I am happy to welcome my good friend Britta Arnold to show. All the way from Berlin, Britta's unique style of techno is always a treat for fans of Dirtybird. I have played with her countless times in Europe and we were lucky to have her at last year's Dirtybird Campout West Coast. Britta has had releases on imprints such as Dantze, Heinz Music and found a home on Katermukke. These days she has started her own label, Happy Campers, which is sure to bring something refreshing to the scene.

Check out Britta Arnold's guest mix below and read on for her BIRDHOUSE questionnaire.

THE REAL

How did your music career get started in earnest?

Years ago, I was a label manager at Bar25, and of course I spend a lot of time there with the family and crew. I loved to collect music and so many of my friends were dj’s. One night the DJ did not show up, and everybody said I should do the gig. Of course, I was nervous, but I did the show and I liked it. That was my first gig and the beginning of this adventure.

Where are you from and does it have an influence on your music?

Berlin, and yes, I do think you can hear the city in my sets.

How many times did you want to quit trying to make this your career?

Never really thought that actually, I don't know what else I would love to do so much as this.

What was one piece of equipment that helped define your sound early on?

Traktor

When you were getting started, which artists did you try to emulate (both musicallyand careerwise)?

Martin Buttrich is I think an amazing producer! I have never tried to copy him (on purpose ☺) but I think it is in our human nature that we look up to people and dream that once you as person or artist will be there, at that point. I hope I can become that good at producing in the studio.

When you have a tough week or a rough tour, how do you get yourself back on track?

Yoga and healthy food really helps me to get me back on track or stay on the case. But the best “medicine” when I have a rough time are my best friends around me. With them I can handle the whole world!

Where and when are you at your most content/happiest?

Wow this is a hard question, but when my family and friends are with me. And we could be somewhere in a beautiful desert with sunshine or at one of my GRRR mit BRRR party’s where everything comes together. Or all this in one mix ☺

Do you have any secret hobbies or hidden talents?

I love playing Donkey Kong on the Wii
