THE BIRDHOUSE 148: Sirus Hood Interview

This week on THE BIRDHOUSE, I am happy to welcome my Parisian friend and fellow Dirtybird artist, Sirus Hood, to the show. Fresh off the release of his brand new EP, Warning / Attention, Sirus Hood blesses THE BIRDHOUSE with a unique all vinyl guest mix this week. We first heard from Sirus Hood back in 2016 from his collaboration with Ardalan, "Paris to SF." Since then, he has put out a string of releases on the label. As well as releasing music on imprints such as CUFF, Bunny Tiger, and Toolroom, Sirus Hood is constantly release tracks built for the dance floor.

Check out his BIRDHOUSe guest mix and interview below.

How did your music career get started in earnest?

When I was 18, I bought my first vinyl turntables. Later on, I started mixing in all the clubs in Paris, until I started producing. Five years ago, I changed my name to Sirus Hood. That’s when I started to live off music. I released some tracks on Cuff, then on Dirtybird and these releases helped me start my career.

Where are you from and does it have an influence on your music?

I was born in Algeria. I grew up in Paris, France. Yes it definitely influences my music, i’m deeply inspired by the French touch and the African grooves.

How many times did you want to quit trying to make this your career?

What was one piece of equipment that helped define your sound early on?

Maschine, it gave me the possibility to create my own unique grooves

When you were getting started, which artists did you try to emulate (both musically and careerwise)?

Paul Johnson, Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Amine Edge & DANCE, Daft Punk, DJ Sneak, Jamie Jones, The Martinez Brothers are some of my biggest inspirations.

When you have a tough week or a rough tour, how do you get yourself back on track?

I just disconnect from everything. I try to reconnect with myself.

Where and when are you at your most content/happiest?

Ibiza when the weather is nice.

Do you have any secret hobbies or hidden talents?

I love piloting boats, planes, helicopters, super cars… sounds like James Bond
